Great bag - Deceptive Size Description
I had done a lot of research to find a bag to meet my needs: roomy, compartment-heavy, sturdy, padded for my ultrabook, and a combination of professional/modern look. Timbuk2 brand had come up in my searches in years prior, but I hadn't liked one enough until this one. It is a great looking bag, good quality, nice material, definitely an urban feel. The size description made by Franklin Covey, however, was misleading. I've always preferred to use a neoprene sleeve in my laptop bags to further protect my laptop. I bought this one rather than the Commute Small size to accommodate my 15" ultrabook plus a sleeve. The icon Franklin Covey has assigned to this product indicates that a 17" laptop would fit, but that is not the case. We have a 17" Sony Vaio and a 17" HP Pavilion in our house as well and neither of them fit into the laptop compartment or main compartment of this bag. Even the Timbuk2 manufacturer tag that came on the bag shows it's intended for 15" laptops (see first photo below). I even did a search of the UPC number on the Timbuk2 label to ensure Franklin Covey didn't send me the wrong size. They didn't. Maybe some 17" would fit, but ours did not. My 15" ultrabook (14.9W X 10.04H X 1") does not fit into the laptop compartment of this bag. It does fit in the tablet/eReader pocket opposite the laptop slot in the back though. Picture below shows my 15" laptop doesn't fit into laptop slot, but the same 15" laptop does fit in the tablet/eReader pocket. That being said, I didn't return this bag to get the large instead because I do find the padding on this bag sufficient for my ultrabook (especially since the laptop compartment faces my body rather than out). I've read many reviews on this bag. Some said the strap pad was painful, pointed, uncomfortable, etc. I have not found the pad to be those things. The padding isn't very squishy though, which is my personal preference, so I have order the Timbuk2 Deluxe Strap Pad and plan to use that one instead. Overall, great bag, good compartments, and nice look. "Fun" looking to take somewhere casual, but urban-professional enough that I could meet with an attorney and not have him/her look at my bag as though it's a Jansport high school backpack. Love it!
