I own one of these timers and it's quite nice. I've had mine for about a month and use it several times daily. The ring of the timer is also very nice and not too loud or too soft. I can hear it fine from a few rooms away from the kitchen.
The one major problem, for me, is that it's difficult to see the mark where the timer starts at zero and then rotates to the amount of time one needs. So, what I did, as of last night, was cut a piece of colored plastic and taped it onto the mark where the timer starts at zero. That way when I'm turning it, I can see where the mark stops.
The company should have made the mark in a different color instead of the same silver, stainless steel that surrounds the timer.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
